Frequently Asked Questions
How does electrolysis work?
A fine probe is inserted into the follicle and then a very small amount of electric current is directed at the bottom of the hair follicle destroying the growth cells. The electrical current mixing with the moisture in the follicle causes a chemical reaction that destroys the growth cells in the follicle then the hair is released from the follicle and removed with tweezers. Once the follicle is destroyed that follicle will never produce another hair.
How long do you have to grow you hair before your first treatment?
Typically 3 to 5 days will create enough hair growth. The hair needs to be long enough to be removed by tweezers. It is incredibly important that you stop all plucking and waxing of the areas you intend to receive electrolysis and switch to shaving. Plucking and waxing cause increased blood flow and irritation to the follicle which fosters continued hair growth. Shaving will not make your hair grow thicker and faster but it may feel that way because it will make more of you hairs visible. They will start rising to the surface at the same time instead of plucking and only see hair growth from different hair cycles.
Does electrolysis hurt?
Everyone’s pain tolerance is different but most people will experience some discomfort. The pain is generally manageable and very similar to the discomfort experienced by receiving other hair removal services. Your consultation and first appointment will give you an example of the sensation you will experience in treatment.
How long will it take to see results?
The number of sessions required for noticeable results varies depending on factors such as the area being treated, the density of hair, and the individual hair growth cycles.Electrolysis is a time consuming process the hairs must be removed one follicle at a time. On average it takes between 9-24 months to complete the process and find permanence. Your dedication to regular treatments and your hair growth patterns will determine the number of necessary treatments. What is important is to trust the progress and dedicate the necessary time to fulfill your permanent hair removal journey.
Are there any side effects of electrolysis or conditions that wouldn’t allow you to get electrolysis?
Common side effects include temporary redness, swelling, and skin irritation at the treatment site. Electrolysis cannot be done on areas with active infections, inflamed skin conditions, or during pregnancy.
